800 is 800 parts silver per 1,000. it was a common legal standard across much of continental europe, especially before sterling became the international norm for jewelry.
german pieces often pair 800 with a crescent moon and crown, the german national silver mark used from 1888. italian pieces may add a star, a number and a province code identifying the maker.
