the names are traditional rather than official, and sources disagree most about where matinee ends and opera begins. go by the measurement. centimeters are rounded to the sizes chains are usually sold in.

how to find your length.
measure a necklace you already like. unclasp it, lay it flat in a straight line and measure from the tip of the clasp to the end of the ring it hooks into.
or use a piece of string. drape it around your neck, let it fall to where you want the pendant to sit, mark the point and measure the string flat.
remember the pendant. a pendant hangs below the chain, so its drop adds to how low the necklace looks. with a large pendant, go an inch or two shorter than the chart suggests.
